David Kleinberg, Biography
David Kleinberg is a native of San Francisco and has lived in the city all his life. High School: George Washington. College: CCSF, S.F. State
Civilian Journalist: David was the editor of the San Francisco Chronicle’s Sunday entertainment magazine for 14 years during a 34-year editing/writing career at the newspaper.
Military Journalist: Kleinberg was a writer and editor for the 25th Infantry Division while at Cu Chi, Vietnam from 1966 to 1967, and was awarded the Bronze Star for his work.
Theater Performer/Writer: David's "He Wants to Run" marks his fourth work as a solo theater artist. His acclaimed "Hey, Hey, LBJ", about his year as an army combat correspondent in Vietnam, has been performed in Washington DC, New York, Sydney, Australia and in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The sequel to "LBJ," "Return to the Scene of the Crime" is about David returning to Vietnam 50 years after the war to visit where David's buddies died and try to perform "LBJ" under threat of arrest from the communist government. It made its world debut in Washington DC. Both Vietnam works had runs at San Francisco's prestigious Marsh Theater.
Comedian: Kleinberg was a standup comedian for 10 years, appearing with five of Comedy Central's top 100 comedians of all time: Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, Richard Lewis, Bobby Slayton and Sinbad.
Television Producer/Talent: Kleinberg was a casual reporter/producer for "Segment 2" at KTVU Channel 2 in Oakland and at KPIX Channel 5 for five years.
